Central Locking Problem?

Could someone please help me with an understanding of how the central door locking mechanism works from an elctrical point of view. When I press the dash button to lock the doors, the doors lock fine. This means the solenoid which lock the doors is work correctly... however when I drive over a small bump, they unlock. If I drive over a bumpy road, there is sometimes a constant solenoid chatter on both doors, meaning they pick around 3-4 times a second.

Read the Bible (p307) and I have checked the door switch.. all looks fine there.

I am suspecting there is a relay somewhere that is being affected by the rough roads and maybe this causing the doors to unlock.


Could this be right.. and ideas on tracing the wiring and where would this relay be?..

Hi,

first make sure that the door switches are working propery by removing and cleaning them of any corrosion on the contact, secondly make sure that when the doors are closed that the door switches are depressed fully, over time if the door flexes or the rubber pad compresses the switch can become intermittent and give the symptoms you describe. If everything checks out then the CDL relay is behind the dash. If you remove the radio and cage you should be able to locate it and pull it through the radio appature - its on the end of a flying lead of the main loom, there is a picture in the bible.

There should be small round pads glued to the doors, which hit the switch when the door closes.
Chances are you have lost one......
