Odd Temperature Problem

Haven't driven the car in about a week. After filling her up with super and being in traffic noticed the temp had shot into the red. By the time I had put the fans on, have a switch, the fans came on and temp dropped very quickly. Once this happens the fans cut in and out as one would expect. Its done it again twice today. Any suggestions as to where to look as Ive never had temp issues before.

Fan temp switch?

Could be a faulty Otter switch or a bad connection to it so would have a look at that to start with and if it proves to be the otter switch go for the lower temperature version as supplied by LT

Cheers lads. Will have a look at it. Had kind of discounted that owing to them coming on and off correctly after id over ridden it but will check it.

Sounds from your description of events you could have read the gauge before the thermostat opened for the first time since cold cold start.

Coolant temperature becomes hot upside of the stat whilst downside is still cold, thus the stat needs more time initially from cold start to reach normal working temp, which of course gives a momentarily higher reading on the temp gauge the sender being upside of the stat.

Worth checking. It could be normal, or sign of a lazy stat which should be replaced asap.


ETA just read again, you had it happen twice later. Could be the stat being lazy or not opening fully.
