leaks - gaps in seal
Discussion
My trimmer has placed a new seal around the car (doors - windscreen) . However it is recommended to foresee 2 gaps in the seal under the door to allow water to escape. If they are not present, water can collect and overflow into the car .
Do you know how can I make properly the gap myself (pressing, cutting, make a hole ?) without damaging the seal ?
Many thanks for your help.

Thank you very much. Seals were bought at David Gerald.
Been fitting car back together for many many years and never seen gaps in rubbers to let water out,A seal is put in to keep the water out if there's gaps in it that's going to let water in,
If we are talking about the to small 1/8 holes that look like they wear made in the rubber that's so they can let the air out
And the rubbers can compress when the door closes,,,,

when I replaced mine, I took apart the originals to see. They had the bottom half of the seal cut out (about an inch wide) then the remainder was pulled down and tucked inside the bit that slots over the sill. I used superglue to stick the seal to itself.Obviously practice on an offcut first!
I tried an experiment of carefully sealing up the holes along the top of the windscreen to roof seal and then not making the gaps in the bottom of the door seals. So far, I have not had water ingress from the seal filling up (but have had from other sources
), but the car hasn't been stood outside in extreme rain yet.
), but the car hasn't been stood outside in extreme rain yet.If the door is open and water gathers in the 'cupped' region of the seal it's wise to leave a route for it to drain out? I would hope the seals didn't get into such a dilapidated state that water collected in that area - but you never know. Some just have slanted pinches made across the seal at the front & back lower corners.
Trickiest part is still getting a good seal between seal & body where it is inverted just by the dash IMHO. Seems like many wild goose chases started on seal pinching / holing / draining because of that problem and became firmly routed in TVR PH folklore
