Nearly time for mot....

Hi all,

Its nearly time for my Griff's first mot in my ownership, can't help feeling a little nervous. Are things like emissions a problem? What about the lights behind the number plate? Do you need to find a TVR sympathetic testing station?

I do think it is worth finding somewhere that is TVR/Sports car friendly, somewhere that understands these cars a bit. I have found a good place near me, a local independent that a friend with a Triumph Stag recommended. They 'understand' emissions etc and are truly interested in my Griff, I usually end up chatting to them about the car and it's history/mechanics.

Maybe ask your local TVRCC region if they have any recommendations?

Get Matt at Sebring in Wisbeach to Mot and service it if you can.

Just collected mine today, always go there as many others do

my local MOT chap made me st a brick first time I took mine for MOT, however I think he was just making me sweat a bit as entertainment to himself..... ie backlit number plate, original factory exhaust (not modified .. even though evryone had to leave the workshop with it running ..he said he had never heard a TVR so did not have a benchmark so it passed )



..... so yes need a sympathetic place, who know .... I always go with the car just incase they 1) can't get out or 2)need explanation ie number plate, ( if it's not been done whilst it's in for service).

An MOT tester recently commented on how clean my emissions were, he was very impressed I have no pre-cats but the main one is still in (for now )

The bd still didn't pass though it as I had other issues

Thanks woo5ie, I like the Sebring suggestion as that's not a million miles from me.
I know these cars get mot'd successfully all the time, but I doubt my local garage gets too many through the door and would imagine they would be slightly too anal for comfort, if you know what I mean.

I don't see how they can fail a TVR for noise as they have now way of testing it or a noise level it must not exceed?
unless someone knows better...and yes my Griff is very loud!

unless someone knows better...and yes my Griff is very loud!

the noise is down to the individual tester.....and they are supposed to the factory system as a standard ... always subjective

Sympathetic yes, but also one that can get the car on ramps and the brake test. Surprisingly, my local Renault dealer does my MoT. Matt (X-Sp) is too far away for such a humble task, and the usual MoT I have used for ever can't get the car over their rolling road.

If the garage doesn't mind you standing around and watching it is a good sign. It also give you a chance to get under the car and have a nosey around. Other things to look out for: they lift the bonnet and say "Now that's what I call an engine"; when they stand back and listen to the noise and smile; when they spot that a front side light is out, but can't be hassled with changing it, but sign the MoT on your promise that you will.
