Well, The time has come and I need some new shocks.. The old Billies have 48K on them and must be getting a bit saggy around the edges...
I was looking at Gaz and so on, but having talked to a couple of people as the car's a keeper and although I don't track my car, I do use it hard sometimes on the road, I've been talked up to these two... but which is best?... Only one way to find out!!! punch
Ask thoes who's got them laugh
I'm not overly bothered from a price point of view... more setting up and usabuility on the Griff
Think Nitrons are just over £1K now and RR's may be £675?...(but are these the original RR's?)
Anyway.. .thoughts and experiances please..... Cheers beer

if you ain't using it for track just get new billies, by far the best dampers for UK roads now.

For sure, I don't want a skate-board... but do they have to be set that way?... I tought they could be as compliant as the Billies.. if not better?

If you want better then you have to get Nitrons, the others aren't better only adjustable.

yes A lot of people tend to forget that the original Bilsteins are a very high quality shock asbosrber. Of course any new shock is going to feel better than a knackered orignal. Does anyone know if you still get new Bilsteins for the Griff?

I would look at Ohlins personally as they have been specifically made to suit the Griff:

Not cheap though! yikes

I wonder if Power has kept the same gas settings as the originals Bilsteins. I agree, they are a quality damper. I've re valved and had rebuilt two sets to a slightly firmer setting, kept the same spring rates, and you would be hard pressed noticing the difference between them and the Ohlins ive run on two cars.

Ohlins are nice... but it's gone from a £650 job to £1700... no.. can't do that!

I do have an enquirey with Bilstine over the origilal shocks, to see if they can re-rurbish them... as this was my thoughts.. Springs same and slightly firmer on the valving?.. no reply as yet but will see what they say as when they come back. And some Eibeck (if that's how they spell it) springs?...

I you're not tracking the car, a good set of standard + 20% springs is an improvement, any stronger will give an over firm ride imho.

Wow.. The Nitron spring is quoted as 325 front and 250 rear... your 40% more on the fronts and 50% more on the rear!!
How hard does that make it?....
Would you not go for std then and rely on the shocks to do their job??.. sounds a bit of overkill to me?? confused

Yes that's true but if you are considering improving Hp and stopping power you need to take this into serious consideration yes
My last visit to Joo when he was Track Car Solutions my fly wheel BHP was 350 and i have APracing four pots with 330mm discs on the front so consider how the car would be with the standard spring rates with the extra power both stopping and accelerating.
That setup for me worked very well but if you intend to keep your car at a standard 260/270bhp then you may find that spring rate too much.
As for only having Nitrons if you do track days i have to disagree simply because you will go round corners for more confidently and in any case you only get what you pay for IMHO.

Please Ignore the Piss takers and i apologize for their hijacking of your Topic wink

I'm running 600 f and 450 r on my Griff, only have around 280bhp(fly) and car weighs 970kg, on track it is epic and a few years ago was fine on UK roads,

Thou if I wasn't using it on track I would go for the billies, and I have nitrons on my Griff and Sag.

yes I agree on the spring comment mate having some 550 front 475 rears made for the next power hike wink

Out of interest why do you say Billies over nitrons for road use ?

So where do you go from here.. A guy with Nitron's on 2 cars saying he'd use Billies for the road... even though he's used his Griff on the road with Nitrons fitted!!wobble
So what benefit do they give you over 'new' standard units?.. sounds like not a lot confused

Because in the UK now the roads are st and if you are not into track days you don't really need em, saying that Nitrons on a Griff are epic and are a far superior damper than the billie but does the OP really need that, only he knows.

Pasco's dyno'd on the button at 450F but somewhat down at 300lb on the rear BTW.

Worries me that a lot of folks may be talking about spring rates which are not 'what they said on the box' which could confuse even further;)
