What's this toxic smell?

Hi all,

The last couple of times I've been out with the roof up (sorry!)i've had this horrible smell coming through into the cockpit. It's like a burning plastic smell, not particularly pleasant. Everything works fine, theres certainly no smoke, so not sure where to look. I think someone raised something similar a while ago, though I can't find it, and was advised to look at the heat proofing on the inner wings, but this appears ok on my car. Anyone else had anything similar?

As soon as the bag makes contact its like shrink wrap. you cant usually see it but the smell does go after it burns off,,,,,See this on cars hundreds of times in my garages

Didn't get chance to do any investigating yesterday, but may have a closer look one evening this week.

Have a look at the seams below the heat shield material. I have some self adhesive aluminium tape over this area.

What can happen is as the engine mounts start to fail the engine moves closer to one side or other (check the clearance of the manifolds both sides) and starts to cook these seams. Even if your mounts are OK I would protect these anyway, it was the cause of my unpleasant smells.
