Well, at the weekend bought my new Griffith 500 HC. Nice looking car FTVRSH, trouble started getting it home!!

The idler pulley on the righthand side of the engine where the PAS pump would normally be popped out pushing the fan belt against the swirl tank bracket! Bank there goes first fan belt. (i hadnt realised at the time the pullet was the problem) I realised the problem once I had put on the new belt (Thanks David Hendry for opening especially for this!) and it started a rubbing noise...
Anyway, now I have driven it all the way back to Germany (740miles) and there seems to be a noise when pulling off in 1st or second under strain. The noise is only brief and sounds a like it is coming from the gearbox. It is like a graunching noise... Seems to be worse when the car is hot...
Any thoughts?

Well just been out in it again and it seems more like it is a graunching noise on pick-up from the rear N/S wheel...
What does a CV sound like when it is on the way out?

It could be almost anything... It is extremely difficult to diagnose strange noises on essentially a text based system. Clunks are usually something loose. Graunches are usually something broken or extremely worn.

I have just bought a 2000 griff 500 which has also suffered from a few clunking noises from the gearbox / diff. They happen when driving over bumps rather than under load. The dealership I bought it from couldn't reproduce the noise (always a prob with intermittent noises) but thought it was because the incorrect oil in the Diff. The bible hints to this. This could be your problem , worth checking I think

They replaced the oil (under warranty) but I still have the same problem. I assume they checked the mounting bols for the gearbox so has anyone got any other ideas?

Just to get this back to the top of the board!!
I have found the problem... the diff!!! I checked all the bushes and mounts, exhaust, brakes everything on the back, and found nothing..

Then last night, took the car for a blast through Stuttgart, and he presto.. going up a hill the car span when I put a little to much power on, and the backend of the drive train started making noises like it was going to leave itself in pieces on the road, unless I drove sensibly!

The I noticed after leaving the car to cool down the noise had gone but, the drive was effectively coming from the O/S rear with lots of torque steer???? Oh and the noises started once warm again....

ANYONE HELP???

I am beginning to think I have purchased the worst LEMON ever!! Can anyone help?
