Not alot of point doing this, the serp oil pump wont produce the pressure at turn over speeds, not so sure about the pre-serp either.I regularly leave the car for three or four months at a time but don't go too heavy on the lay up. Its kept in a heated garage with power so;
1. Battery remains connected but on Accumate charger. (Returning once to dead battery without this)
2. Up on axle stands, wheels off.
3. Waxed, polished, interior including leather sorted.
4. Coil disconnected for pre start on return as suggested.
5. Handbrake off.
Covered up to keep cozy and starts first button on return every time.

The reason for taking the wheels off is to prevent flat spots. However if you just over inflate to the max pressure on the sidewall and you should be ok for three months. If you can move the car a couple of feet once or twice even better. If you do take them off make sure the car is supported on the suspension otherwise you can age/damage the rubber bushes.
Do not underestimate the rodents! They can find ways in through drafter flaps and rubber grommets! And they can chew plenty of stuff under the bonnet even if they can't get in the car. Electronic repeller AND traps is the way to go.
Remember the post-it note on the steering wheel to remind you what you did!

Interesting that you suggest putting the axle stands under the suspension & not the chassis rails. Do others agree this is the best method to support the car ???
If you leave you car supported on chassis the suspention will drop lower than normal, Parts of your shocks,(the steel insert) that hardly see day light will be exposed to the elements, Interesting that you suggest putting the axle stands under the suspension & not the chassis rails. I wouldnt do this either..
Cannot seem to find them now, but I remember seeing recently some sort of supports for the tyres whilst the car is being stored.
They are designed to support the tyre and prevent flatspots, so you do not need to lift the car at all.

Why take the wheels off ? 'cos you cannot support the front suspension with the wheels on !!
Rears are ok left in place.
So I could resist a final spin & now put to bed for the next 4 month. I'm off skiing for a full season but when the snow thaws, I will relish the 1st drive in May 2011.
