Morning guys,
just a quick one, after 4 months of waiting my wheels have arrived and I need to wrap them in rubber, gone for 17" 18" Pro Race 1.2 and going for toyo's of course. Pleae can you tell me what size any of you use?

Cheers. Ian.

Offsets and widths may help, especially at the front, could be either 215/40 or 235/40.

I have 215/40 17 front and 245/35 18 rears (also on pro race 1.2's) .. rolling radius is VERY close to originals with that combination.

I really do despair at the number of times this topic comes up.

The wheel size, Tyre size and Offset all have to be chosen together because they are interrelated. Each tyre size will have an acceptable range of rim widths and an optimum width at which the tyre will work best. The wheel offset (the difference between the centre line of the wheel and the centre line of the hub face must be chosen so the wheel and the tyre is clear of the inner and outer wheel arch and other things that it may contact. Only when you know what tyre size and ideally the exact type of tyre (because the overall width varies between manufactures for a given size) can you choose the offset and rim width. They have to be chosen together.

The lower the required profile the more important it is to exactly match the rim width with the manufacturers recommendation for the tyre you chose. Most decent tyre manufacturers have a web page that will show the overall width, diameter, tread width and acceptable rim sizes.

I agree with you completely Steve that these things should all be considered as a package when looking to change rims, however, that's all well and good if you're choosing which is the best rim/tyre combination for handling, recognising the manufacturers guidelines, however I suggest some of the aftermarket wheels are chosen for looks primarilly with an assumption that larger wheels = lower profile = better handling.

Therefore the issue is tackled the other way round, I've got these wheels, what rubber should I use . ..

Tried a search but got nothing back and needed to be sure, when the order went in was told 215 40 R17, 245 35 R18 but was just making sure before I fork out £450 for wrong size ;-)

Thanks for the help/flame! lol

No flaming intended . .. just an observation.

Is yours PAS, as this would mean you'll be running narrower rubber on the front at 215 as you should be running 225. Mines 16" all round so run 225/45/16 and 245/45/16. Or is there an issue with clearance with a 17" wheel with 225 rubber ?

What rim widths are the wheels? I run 17" all round with 9" rims fron and rear. This will affect clearances.
