Clunking from the gearbox/diff
Discussion
I recently bought a lovely 2000 griff 500 with 14000 miles on the clock. All covered under warranty
I need some advice re this very annoying noise from the gear box when running over bumps in the road. Its been back to the dealership twice now and they have replaced the diff oil which they say can be a problem. This has not solved the noises. In addition to the clunking there is a what can best be described as a rattle when accelerating from low revs. Also get a feint rattle when the clutch is applied when at a standstill
Is this normal (its my first TVR) and should I keep going back to the dealership. I recently found out that the Spirit Warranty company ahs gone into receivership, sounds like a bad omen to me.
Having said all this its a cracking car I and am enjoying every moment of it.
Any help with this would be much appreciated

Had a slight clunking on the drive take up on my 4.3, local dealer found it to be a couple of slightly loose engine bolts.
See if you can get a test drive in a couple of other Griffs to see how things compare, your own dealer seems to have acknowledged a problem already by work they have done thus far. Should get sorted in the end just keep at it, good luck.

These noises are fairly common with Griffs and Chimeras, sounds like what they call "drive train shunt". From what I understand this is a normal lateral movement between gearbox and diff. The
rattling noise could be pinking, mine use to do that
untill those nice people at Austec put it on the rolling road and sorted out the timing. If you are
worried ask on here for a recommended service agent.
If you are in the South East, Austec are very good.
None of this takes away from the
though!!!
Happy motoring
