I have taken the rack off as part of some chassis work. I will replace both ball joints but is there anything else I should do to it whilst its off? Kiley Clinton in Birmingham do a basic refurb for £200 but I am somewhat reluctant as I dont think there are any leaks or problems with it. Any wisdom out there?
Thanks

Don't refurb it then .... Seems reasonably straight forward to me. I'd only refurb it if it needs it and it's a pain to get out, but do-able in less than 2 hrs.

KC do an excellent job and I have no reluctance in recommending them. They won't screw it up and they also have a couple of retrospective enhancements to the rack they can apply which will help it, but unless there's an issue, save the couple of hundred quid for something from Santa ....

What's the issue with rack removal... keep reading it's a pain but am not sure what the difficulty is?

Depends on your level of competence, I'd not suggest it was easy to do, it's just awkward and has been detailed on here a number of times.

I've done it in less than 90mins, but I've had mine out 5 times frown

Debate on taking it out through chassis rails or whether to remove the Y piece, I've done both and removing the Y piece is ultimately easier and less likely to cause other damage IMHO.

Remembering to detail the turns on the TRE's to get approximate track settings back ahead of having geo set up done again etc . . .

I'd happily do it, but then I'm comfortable with TVR mechano hehe

I suppose the summary is there is a lot to undo, drain, move, plus the reverse to re-fit and then it's an awkward piece to move in and out . . . .other than that it is not technically challenging.

Johno - thanks for the response. The rack is already out as part of my chassis overhaul. I will replace track rod ends and column seal but the gaiters etc are sound so I will leave well alone. Out of interest do you know what they use seal the thread on the brass insert that the rubber hose attaches to? It looks like some kind ptfe plumbing tape.
Cheers

Replace the flexible pipes (they break down internally contributing to seal failure and also trap microscopic swarf particles) and fit an ATQ filter into the return line.
