Rocker covers

Anybody know if I can take the rocker covers off and transpose them left to right so the breather and oil filler holes are at the rear ? Also I notice that earlier versions of the engine had more rounded covers, anybody know if they are interchangeable with the later ones ?

Have just looked at my numerous Growl photos.. and it seems that the cars with the SC Power superchargers fitted all have the rocker covers swapped.. so looks like you are OK..

Maybe a stupid question but why do you want to do this?

Doesnt it make topping up the oil more of a PITA?

No problem, just gets a bit tricky rerouting the PCV pipeworks from flame trap to plenum (throttle bracket etc gets in the way a bit).

The old early rounded rocker covers do fit the heads - but I'd be careful they have clearance for rockers with cams etc. that are used.

Afaik don't all the older rounded rocker covers have ROVER cast in the top - so you wouldn't would you?

Any casting looks better than blingy stick on 'go faster' badges anyways

Thanks for the replies. I would guess there is some difference in the internal space in the older rounded ones otherwise why would they have spent money on remaking them. One of the pictures in the Haynes Range Rover manual shows the rounded ones and the oil filler hole is much further back so perhaps that is the differnce.

I am considering having a play with the JE crossover throttle bodies and the air boxes sit over where the breather and filler normally sit but there is some room at the rear. The breather pipe won’t be a concern because on my car I have a 19mm pipe from both covers to a catch tank so it breaths to atmosphere rather than throwing all that oily fug back into the clean air supply. As it is I have to remove one of the breather pipes to top up the oil anyway.
