Some advice requied please....
I want my Griff 500 to be louder. What do I need to do with the cats, and what is involved in De-cat ?? I thought it was a case of removing the cats from the 'Y-piece'. Is that the case ??
Is it a simple job, or should I replace the 'Y-piece with a new version thats purpose built with no cats in it ??
What would be the cost involved ??
How much of a difference would this make to the exhaust noise (note) / volume.

Best bet is buy another y piece de-catted, so you have your original for MOT time. It will be nice and loud ! Try that first before sleeving the silencer (if it hasn't been done). Depends on how loud you want it and what sort of noise you want. I fitted an ACT decat y piece and left the pre-cats in. It doesnt sound as loud as some but it sure sounds good. It also just scrapped the MOT as well which was a pleasant surprse.
After I have been out with some others I think mine is not loud enough but once you start sleeving the exhaust, the note can sometimes suffer - at least it does on some I have heard. They can sound a bit like tug boats and not sure why that is.
I will be surprised if I dont make mine louder at some point but I will probably buy a 2nd hand system so that I can put it back if I dont like it.

the very first thing to do when wanting to make the car a bit louder is to remove the precats, the engine will breathe better and you will dramatically reduce under bonnet temperatures.
its a simple enough job to do that won`t cost you anything except time and a bit of hassle, then decide afterwards if you want it a bit louder before spending your hard earned cash, I`m sure most people leave them in because they can`t be arsed with the hassle compared to just removing a couple of clamps to change the y piece.

Get the precats out first and then see what you think, it might be just the volume you are looking for.If you still want louder then Clive's Y Piece is very highly recommended and is a work of art. Quinny did a good write up and video here:
