Not without a special tool that will flatten the locking pin pack in. Also If you cut the wires they can be pretty difficult to re join neatly as the cable is steel of some sort and does not solder at all well, so Id go for the deep socket with a slot ground in it myself.

yep its 17mm, I had the same problem trying to source the socket and could only buy one as part of a set from someone like snap on for about £80. I ended up bying a long 17mm sorket and grinding out as described above. If you use a bench grinder it is relatively easy to knock one up.

When I took out the sensors on the old Chim, I took off the plastic shroud off the wires at the end, threaded them through a 17mm socket and undid them with a set of grips on the socket. As said above it helps if they are soaked in a little 'creep-up' first.
The cables just clipped back into the plastic socket afterwards without any trouble.
