Leaky Boot

After returning back to the Banana on Sunday at Rainy Silverstone, I was horrified when opening the boot to be greated buy about 2 inches of water at the Bottom.

I have since done some tests and found the Seal is ok and also where the Fuel filler is and the Boot stay brackets are.

Most wiring comes through the body so it can only leave where the petrol pipes(which is where?? ) come through, unless any of you guys know of anywhere else that it may be coming through.

Seems quite alot and must of come in while driving.

Where's there a breather between boot and main compartment? Could be coming in from the doors and in behind the seats if there is a low hole there somewhere?

Otherwise the boot seal is the only logical place.

The tail end of the hood overlaps the boot if I remember right (can't be aed to go out in the garage to 'ave a look) - could be leaking thru the hood stitches then into the front of the boot via the interior maybe.
Its a bonus really, all that water weighing down the back end has got to help traction:I'llgetmeraincoat:

mine leaked! turned out to be the rear lights. might be different with yours though as you've had them converted

rear number plate light box?

rain could get in thru the plate lights in the bottom of the box.

Back of the rear n/s wheel arch, just above the rear lower wishbone mount.

If you follow around from the bottom of the wheel arch(rear side)towards the centre of a car there is three large holes(the same either side) looking up this i can see what is the back of the Petrol Tank(bottom half seems rest against some a FG) , had a poke around in the holes and the water can get in there and prehaps into the boot if there is any holes through the FG.. Might be a petrol tank out job ANYONE DONE THIS.. whats behind it.
Looked at where the pipes go through and they look well sealed.

I think they are air vents so that that boot doesnt get pressurised, if you remove teh carpet from teh tank ypu can see right up into the boot through the holes.But between the tank and this holes is a Fibre Glass shield so can let water in and out along with air. Thing is if this shield isnt joined to the inner sides of teh bbot that well the water going in might go in further than the sheild, which i think may of happened.

Anyone got any pics of a griff boot without the Tank IN??

I discovered a bit of a leak in mine this weekend - I reckon it's coming through the bolt holes which secure the boot hinge to the body. These are in the rain channel or gutter just under the boot lid, and they are painted to the body colour. If the paint around them is cracked, and the sealant that was applied to the hinge (inside the boot)when first fitted is not 100%, then the rain coming off the roof into the boot gutter will find it's way into the boot.

Mine also leaks through the small bolts in the gutter which secure the boot hinge. It took me ages to figure it out.

BB - I'm surprised that was the only leak you had on Sunday, the size of that downpour. Found my car had floated off down river when I got back to the carpark !

Pretty sure its going through where I said earlier, i have blocked the holes and the drain holes and poured water down the back of teh Petrol Tank and it does leak into the boot so must be a hole between teh GRP teh tank sits against and teh other side of the grp which leads down to these air holes.
I poor picture but it might enlighten soem to where i am on about.

I have the same holes (which look worrying) and the boot carpet does seem a bit wet either side of the tank some times. Are you still convinced the "shield" is not watertight? Maybe the factory could help out on this one. They put the damned hole in there ( knows why though, they're way to big and numerous for air pressure relief)!
