I currently have a lotus elan m100, and have really enjoyed owning it...
However I think its time to move on and get something that has more power, needs more skill to drive, growls from the back end and is still a little quirky, individual and needs the love and attention the elan does...
I seem to be drawn towards the Griff. However, i'm not entirely sure why.
The Chimp really does nothing for me. The Tuscan is nice but not really me...
Does anyone know what it is about the Griff that makes it special. I mean all TVRs are special, but the Griff seems to be more so...
make sense ?

Maybe its the drop dead good looks, the V8 (should I stop there?), the power, the option to go topless, reliability, exclusivity, etc etc. and all at a reasonable cost to buy and run.
I'm sure others will post much more elaborate responses but it must be one of the best looking cars ever produced.

I bought a Griff because I always wanted one for the looks, the sound and the performance. What I didn't bargain for is the effect it has on people. There is rarely a time when I go out in it when it doesn't make people stop and stare or make kids shout out things like "nice car mister" etc etc. People I don't know have come up to me and asked if I'm "the guy with the blue TVR" which is strange because there's no shortage of them where I live.
Some people, for reasons I don't understand, have a disliking to drivers of porsches, ferraris etc. However almost everyone seems to appreciate the Griff. Again, I don't necessarily know why, it just has that "something" that all TVR"s have, but just maybe a little bit more of what I like compared to say a Tamora. That and the eight piece orchestra under the bonnet!!

"That's a real man's car," he sighed.
pardon!
for my two pennorth.
timeless classic.
Fabulous to drive
gives me pleasure just to look at.
I like the fact that as mine is one of the older cars it is possible to take care of it myself (or should I say he can with my supervision) (not too many electronic gizmos).
Do not personally care what other people think, but I do enjoy it when I get appreciative comments.

(more than I can type provided on a daily basis by the Griff).

(more than I can type provided on a daily basis by the Griff). Funnily enough I'd considered the M100 Elan, even went and test drove one, yes they're nice, but, seemed to lack that little something I was looking for.
So I started the search for a Griff!
There are a few out there, but when you find the right one you'll know it. They talk, honest.
I'm picking mine up next week, and oh boy are the days long at the moment. Biggest surprise will be for my daughter who hasn't seen her yet! Know for sure it will be a case of "pass me the hankies".

Why a Griffith?
Get a picture of one and show it to everyone you know. I'll guarantee you two things. Firstly, that everyone will say one of two things: "Wow, what is it? its gorgeous" (girls) or "its a TVR yeah? niiiice" (blokes). Secondly, not one single person will tell you it looks crap.
Thats enough, even without mentioning any of the following topics: V8, bhp, torque, handling, interior, soft top, top speed, 0-60, british made, or exhaust note.

cheers guys, this is exactly what i'm thinking too...
strange how the Chimp does nothing for me. Doesn't even come close to the image the Griff appears to create... (from what i hear at a tvr dealership, they are identical cars with different bodies...)
thanks for the offer of a go in one, very much appreciated. Unfortunately doubt that i can get there this weekend
cheers

Know just what you mean Alan. A few years ago, before I knew much about Griffs, I saw one parked in Leeds and said to Vicki, "now that is a mean looking car - you just know it means business"
I think it is because from the back, it has this huge arse, a bit like a Porsche 928 does, that makes it look so wide and low, like a cross between a steam roller and a rocket. It just bristles with brute force evem when it standing still.
Oh, then there's the front, with the cowled in lights that look like they are straight off a 1960s Le Man starting grid.
It goes a bit too

You just typed the answer! (and didn't even mention the looks). There's a book called 'Muscle and Curves' - which says it all really.
I've just spent 3 yrs trundling around in a Smart Car
,
When the engine blew on the motorway
I decided to get something a bit more capable,....... but what, my 16 yr old son said "evo" or "scooby", "Civic Type R" I was thinking Porker or lotus Elise, I very nearly bought an Exige. How glad I am I bought a Griff, 2000 miles later and the smile just gets wider

everybody loves you, the kids, the missus small boys on the street and that's before you talk about how monster it is to drive, how bomb-proof the engine is and how it sounds, go-on do it you won't regret it

And for getting past numpties in MX5's - got stuck behind one driving like a girl today, quite ruining my journey. Even the Vauxhall Zafira between us was getting impatient. A short straight, a burst of loud pedal - and suddenly they weren't there any more...

Well, all of those reasons, plus..
This weekend, decided to take the Griff out for an hour's trundle. I got chatting to a Hells Angel, ended up having a shot on the back of his trike - what a laugh, if a bit
. Then bumped in to a bloke from the car club, and ended up in the pub from 1.0pm til kicking out time - his wife came to join us and his kids took it in turns to be passenger in the Griff (Cerbera kids sadly deprived of the drop-top experience! lol).
Now someone tell me you can get that with a Nissan Micra, and I'll go buy one tomorrow!
Interesting people drive interesting cars. If you want one, you'd be failing to achieve your full potential if you suppressed the desire. Just do it!
