Track day slot in silencers

Afternoon all.

I am going to remove the precats from my Griff soon as I it is a bit too quiet for my liking at present.

I live in a small courtyard at present and the V8 bass reverberates as it is. To pacify the neighbours I was looking to purchase the track day silencers which simply slot in to the tail pipes from TVR Car Parts. The idea being that if I know I am going to be home late or up early then I can slot them in and not feel so guilty.

Removing the pre-cats won't make it any louder, only makes the manifolds more tinny .. it's not a bad sound particularly, but don't expect any overall gain in exhaust db, just a different engine bay noise.

Slot ins reduce exhaust noise well, however you have to drill a hole in each tail pipe so they can be fixed in place, some use a jubilee clip, but I wouldn't trust it. Having watched a friends fly out and just miss a marshal at Goodwood then I'd want them properly held in there.

Just imagine on start up in your courtyard, all chuffed you've reduced the noise when one of them exits the exhaust pipe through your neighbours kitchen window whilst they're tucking into their corn flakes . . .

I use these.

They lower the sound by 3-4 db apparently, (by plenty if I just go over the 100 db limit).

You have to drill a small hole in the tail pipes as said.

I drilled mine right at the bottom so it is hardly visible.

If you keep your pipes clean, (oo-er missus) they slot in and can be fitted in 2 mins!

The story about the Marshall at Goodwood did actually make me laugh out loud.

That is interesting what you say about the sound with the precats out. I am torn between two options:

1. Removing Precats from existing manifolds and ceramic coating the manifolds & catted Y

2. I also have Clive Ford's Y Piece which is such a work of art I cannot bring myself to cermaic coat it so I was looking at purchasing the ACT MS03 Replica S/S Manifolds to match.

I was going to go for the first option and then see if it is loud enough and if not go for option 2. But perhaps I should go straight for option 2 based on what you are saying.

Thanks for the reply harcutmike, keeping the pipes clean that isn't something I had considered but now you mention it that does make sense. Drilling the holes at the bottom sounds like a good shout as well.

What do you use to 'keep the pipes clean' if you don't mind me asking?

Do you use yours as a neightbour pacifier or as trackday silencers?

I certainly don't passify the neighbours, (we live in the country where they need waking up!).

I just use them for T/D use if nec.

A small wire brush and a quick spray of the old WD40 and they slip in a treat .

Surprising that as I think you will find they are the same units.... and a bit more expensive...

I finally got the bonnet stay I bought from you at the Growl last year fitted. I am really impressed with it.... much more sturdy than the original and looks better too.
