Some motor spares shops now sell alarm fobs that will learn the code of your existing fob, was thinking of getting one as mine has broken where it attaches to the key ring.

I'm sure that there's a bit in my Griff handbook that says that the meta alarm fitted uses a different code each time....specifically to avoid the code being copied..

I dont know. It has a small square fob with an engraved picture of a diamond on the back. Which one is that?

it looks a littel feeble in the pics. Is it a sturdy device or does it feel like it wants to snap when the key is turned?

I will still have to get another fob anyway since the combo key has no guts.
(Thats not to say it isnt brave, I mean it has no working bits inside it. Its just a case).

the unit is nice and very robust, but as you said it's an empty case, so you will need the small alarm device anyway

You need the code number (was on a plastic card with the spare keys on mine).

Also worth noting, the internals and the cases have both changed so new internals don't fit very well in old cases and visa versa.

it couldn't be easier - you open it with a sharp knife or something similar (when it's closed it is really tight) and put the small - lets call it a chip - from your original alarm unit + bateries into the new one et voilà (by the way, the two units are identical inside, you cannot do it wrong)

Not true. The microswitch has been changed to a lower profile one. My original "chip" in the combined key was being pressed continuously. When I compared it with a new "chip", I saw why.

There's not much in it though. Some work, some don't

in this case, i have to consider myself lucky - mine was "plug and play" and works perfectly well
