Outrigger replacement advice etc...

Right...

Looking at a high mileage Griff and it will undoubtedly need it's outriggers replaced. So - who has had ACTUAL experience of the various body-on, body-lift, full-refurb etc, with whom and how much. What I'm really interested in is the body-on small amount of £££ option.

I'll kich off for starters. Tuscan Race Car (1988) - full chassis refurb - Top Cats - £5k ish.

Body lift and outrigger replacement
Done in my garage with me doing most of the work except the welding which was done by a welder friend
£300 max including materials and paying my mate for the welding

I did a body off restoration 18 months ago which took me 12 weeks, weekends and evenings. Topcats did an excellent job with the chassis providing new outriggers and nylon coated chassis etc. I replaced bushes, suspension joints, fuel lines, brake hoses, brake cables etc etc. Total cost about £5000, of which £1300 was chassis work. Like a new car. Great fun.

Hi, Currently useing RT Raceing aka the chassis shop, have nothing but good things to say about Richard and the boys, really nice bunch of guys doing a very prof job, always happy to see me and discuss the project plus my p&j is well looked after, your not far from me in Croydon so i'd say the only downer is the 2.5 hour drive to Sheffield although Richard will arrange collection if needs.

X Works at Kirkham (between Preston and Blackpool) do replacement outriggers, etc. and a nice job as well so they could be useful for you as you are in the IoMan. They had a car on show at the Back Home last September which had the chassis done so you may have seen their work if you went; there was a special offer for replacement outriggers recently so if you do want them doing it could be worth speaking to them. Their work (incl servicing, etc) is very good and not badly priced.

Sportmotive replaced my outriggers a couple of years ago (with body in situ), and did a great job. My car's now back up there for a front end re-spray, and is one of about 8 Griffs in their workshop so you almost get the impression they don't want to work on anything else


I think there was a Chimaera hiding in there somewhere
