Ok so I've decided to do a 2 week trip round europe in June but I've hit a small snag.

If I'm out and about I use a wheelchair, it fits in the griff boot pefectly, only not if the roof is in there! There is no point doing the trip with the roof on so I had thought I'd take a rather large risk and go without the wheelchair and do 90% of sight seeing from the Griff.
After thinking it through its a rubbish idea and would probabily miss out on alot, so.....anyone got a good idea? I know that the easy answer is to get a surrey folding roof but I don't have the £500 for that.

I had thought x2 bin bags and a roll of gaffa tape? (bit like the roofs on the lambos and porkas

what about the split roof , many on here have done it, I belive Barreti, Moosehunter, and Del have put up some instructions in the past, the other option would be for someone with a split roof to swap with you for a couple of weeks?


hopefully it would still fit in the boot on top of the wheelchair?

Thanks for replys, rent is a very good idea. Anyone game for some easy money? And a roofless griff for 2 weeks
Thought about the roof cut but even then I'd be stuck, my chair is a fixed frame and only drops in right in the middle of the boot leaving not enough room left and right, and about 1-2mm clear of the boot lid!

PM on it's way to davep not met him before.

As mad as the idea is, I would probabily consider it it's only water anyway.

Chromo if you're driving solo what about a folding chair? I use a Quickie Neon when I'm on my own. The 24" wheels fit very nicely on the back shelf between the seat backs, the folded frame sits on the passenger seat and the roof goes in the boot. If you can't face the expense of a new wheelchair I'm sure you'd be able to hire one. Don't forget to take your Blue Badge, parking up a Griff in a Disabled bay always draws attention.

It might be worth your while going to one of the Yorkshire TVRCC Regions www.YorkshireTVR.cc as a number of drivers have split roofs. Plus a large number of owners head out to Le Mans or Zolder in June, which you could perhaps combine with the start of your holiday.

Your welcome to borrow my split roof for your trip. I am away in Florida from the 31st May for 2 weeks and I also have a spare full roof so won't be a problem for me. Your not far away from me so if you want you could bob around and see if you can fit the chair and my split roof in the boot. Or if you fancy I will split your roof for you (free of charge of course) it only takes about an hour to do then and you will have it available whenever you need it.

Davep, just changed chair end of last year for a quickie ti 2nd hand so another is a no go, plus my wheels are 26" they just fit on shelf between seats or boot.

Cheers Chris, yeah would be good to test size of split on off chance and yours looked real good. Need an excuse to pop out now pre cats out.

Hold it right there!! Now that I have got your attention.......

The Surrey roof is definately the answer for you, how do I know? 'cos I've got one - absolutely brilliant and in your case a serious must for you to purchase one/ rent / beg / borrow or...... no, we won't go there!

For you - much better than the split roof, I know what they are like, having had an S before the Griff. They may well be good but in YOUR case it would still limit you room with your wheel chair. With my folding roof I can (although not officially advertised by Roger Morris, the maker) fold my Surrey roof down and place behind the back seats and still see out of the back, plus there would still be plenty of space for your overnight case behind the seats and thus leaving the boot free JUST for your wheelchair. Now if money is tight, there may be a solution, as said I have mine now, but I also have Roger's prototype which is as good as the newer ones. (I need to get it back to him!) Roger 'rented' out his prototype to me for my French trip last year while I placed mine on order with him, why not call him to see if he would rent it out to you or even sell it to you - it's in black. Fantastic wouldn't be with out one for the world - worth every penny. Just booked tonight another French holiday for the summer and the hard/original one stays behind while the new roof will be with me - might not be in the fixed position though!! Good luck what ever your choice is.

You need to take a look at Chris's split roof, its a quality job and fits easily in the boot and probably behind the seats. He has offered to do it for nowt - that is what you call a bargain.
