4.3 pre cat cam.
Discussion
Just started striping the engine and trying to decide on new cam choice. It would appear it is Kent 214 that is in and i am more than happy to replace with the same. I didnt find this cam over lumpy or shunty and replacing with the same should rule out the need for re mapping etc. However when recently speaking to Dom at power he suggested a kent 218, the 214 being too shunty.
Having pulled my cam it only had a standard none adjusting pulley. the chain also appeared quite stretched. i`m assuming this will have thrown the timing out slightly. Could this be masking the lumpiness of the 214 cam or do people find a correctly timed 214 ok.
I will ring V8 Dev and speak to them but was just wondering what other people with 4.3`s are running and their thoughts.

The engine in my car started as a brand new Griff 4.3 unit, and had a 214 cam. When I renewed the cam a few years ago I put another 214 in. Very Pleased with it - idles fine, nice driveability and makes power to 6K plus. Maybe any possible shunting has been ironed out by me using an after market ecu.
When Dom did my engine rebuild he put a slightly sportier cam in then original........ to drive it is now really fantastic as the power comes in earlier, but no real increase in max BHP.... but no issue with shunting at all.
With having the crank balanced and new pistons as well the car idles v smoothly, like it never has in my 6 years of ownership.

Stick to the Kent 214, It's one of the secrets to the 4.3 reputation. My 4.3 has the original Kent 214 and when I renewed the cam gears and chain it made no difference to smoothness and my chain was also really slack. Also don't both with an adjustable timing gear, you'll struggle to set up the cam better than with standard gears. Obviously use a cam gear with metal teeth not the original type with plastic teeth. Enjoy that free revving 4.3.

Thanks for the replies. Hoover do you know what cam you are now running.
I'll have to hunt out the invoice, I'm sure Dom will know as well...Heres my rolling road print out of before the rebuild (before I blew it up) and after... as you can see the new cam mirrors the old one, just slightly more power early on.
