Gluing the bonnet insulation?

Anyone recommend a particular glue for this? I assume it would need to be high temp?

Mine is sagging !!!!
Must be age !!!!

ive tried only spray glue so far but it only lasted a few days but me m8 fits upvc windows and uses a glue which consists of a glue then another spray which is an activator i will be trying this very soon and will post the outcome, good luck

i did mine about a year ago with contact adhesive the glue they stick carpet tiles down with.it has stayed inplace and dosen't look like coming down.You just have to make sure you let it dry on the bonnet and heatshild before pressing them together.

I glued the front edge of my bonnet insulation back with Rapid Araldite -left it overnight to dry - still holding after 1 month

What would happen if it didnt have this On, would the bonnet paint discolour??
Seems one huge place that the heat is being thrown back towards the engine when maybe it could dispearse through the bonnet(little that it may through GRP).

Mine was taken off by the garage that fitted my engine as it was hanging down, since then my bonnet has got a star craze in the paint, I put it down to not having the heat shield as the paintwork was fine before.

Must get another one actually, anyone know where I can buy some?

It can be worth taking the bonnet off, turning it upside down before sticking the stuff back in place. You can then add some weight (small sand backs/books etc to ensure good contact. Not too much otherwise the bonnet might crack.

I used common or garden Evostick contact adhesive with the bonnet upside down, didn`t even need any weight to hold it together. that was about october time and i`ve had no problems with it comming off so it must be okay by now..........Martin

Evostik contact adhesive worked on mine about 3 years ago! Make sure everything is clean before applying the glue, don't use very much and let it almost dry before putting the surfaces together...mine gripped instantly...DOH on contact!

BTW the same glue worked just as well on the boot carpet.

I am sure the factory was using Evostik type stuff in spray guns when I last visited...any parts that were not well stuck on my car seemed to have the horrible white powder (that is everywhere in Bristol Ave.) sticking to the glue, ruining the adhesion.

Thanks for the tips lads. I'll try the Evostick option as I've also tried this on part of the carpet and it worked well.....

Try this; it has worked for over a year for me.
Remove bonnet and retire to living room with bonnet and kick out dog/cat/kids/wife/husband. Put bonnet down on well hoovered carpet, preferably on clean sheet (you would be amazed at how much grit there is...). Clean area to be glued using white spirit or similar (NOT cellulose thinners). Put tube of Silicone adhesive-sealant (note: must be adhesive type) as found in Wickes DIY store for circa £7 per tube, into applicator gun. Dribble into the deepest recesses of the unstuck section by standing bonnet on end and using gravity to get it to where you need it. Use wallpaper edge roller to smooth the adhesive throughout the section to be stuck. Leave for a while to set and Bob's your uncle!

I used a BMW glue called profile Gummi cost around £7.50 per tin, its only available thru BM but has a part No (sorry dont have it)and is readilly available, youll need 2 tins for the job. Its a contact adhesive and really will bond anything! Did mine over a year ago without any deterioration thus far. Best done with Bonnet off if your doing the whole thing, requires careful positioning as once you bring the two together thats it! I tried other glues prior to this but they always eventually came away again.
