Carbon Fibre Needed

Anyone know where I can get a sheet of carbon fibre from? Needs to be approx 12" x 9". I've currently made a template from 6mm MDF which is strong enough for my needs, but I will take advice on how thick the cf would need to be for the same strength.

Ah! I thought you might ask! I'm making a mounting for the PAS reservoir and coil assembly since neither fitted properly on the posts as supplied on the plenum.

I've made a prototype in mdf (God bess Handy Andy) which is basically rectangular and mounts on the two posts as supplied (using the spacer tubes). I've cut a 56mm hole through which the reservoir goes (from underneath) and is currently held in place by the cap, although it can't go anywhere since the hoses are sitting on top of the rocker cover. I will make a couple of ali brackets which will screw into the sheet and hold the reservior via the original jubilee clip.

There is a further hole towards the front which picks up on the coil mounting bracket which sits underneath.

I've rounded off the outer rear corner in an effort to follow the shape of the airbox, and the overall effect is pleasing (IMO) as it masks hitherto untidy cables / coil gubbins and balances the carbon look with the central plenum and air intake on the nearside.

If I'm making one, I could knock another up for you, if you like. Better still, once I've made mine, I'll ship you the prototype to make sure it fits, as I have no Air Con plumbing to concern myself on mine.

What facilities do you have? Would you be cutting it out of bought in sheet, or do you lay up / autoclave the stuff?

I lay it up , obviously , it does not need to be flat.I dont really understand your explanation , can you post a picture of your mdf mock-up ?

I will, but it'll be a day or two. Digital technology is not great at the mo.

Thanks for the offer. I'll see if laying it up allows me to improve the design any. Would it help if you had my muck-up to use as some kind of mould?

Ok. Will work on the design. Presumably, you need a buck to lay onto. I think the mdf template might be quite useful as you could mould the carbon down over the edges and down into the 56mm hole to give a nice radiused edge on the final piece. It would look nicer and give some rigidity as well.
