Oil Temperature Guage

Has anyone investigated fitting an oil temp guage to their Griff?

Fitted one from VDO last year. Fits were the clock used to be. Temperature sender is of the dipstick type, also VDO, works like a charm. The styling is simular to the existing dials in my 1993 Griffith. (no TVR logo !)

After you fit the temperature gauge you know why you should also fit an oil cooler...

Put one in a Chim, gauges & sender from greengauges, drilled/tapped sump plug, ran cable dash-thru bulkhead above bellhousing-round/under engine/chassis-sender (PITA).

Sump plug location is not great - too close to exhaust (had to bend terminal on sender to fit & kill it every time exhaust comes off!). ETB do a combined oil pressure switch & transmitter - I may try this so that temp sender can go in the other tapping in the oil pump cover. Sump probably has a better indication of oil temp - but with effect of exhaust I'm not sure until I can test alternative location.

ETB can also supply the brass adapters for the pressure transmitter, which are prone to breaking (bugger to get out) & TVR have a bad batch with 18tpi instead of 20tpi!!! Found this out at last oil change when I considered testing temp sender in pressure sender tapping - not sure if there is enough flow to accurately measure tempereature. Any experience would be appreciated.

Thought about this as well, but didn't want to squash another gauge onto the dash or replace the clock. What about a single LED, similar to the main warning lights, mounted near the oil pressure gauge. It could show yellow when the temperature was outside the proper range. Anyone tried this?

I had no problem with removing the clock. All it did was make a lot of noise and not tell the proper time anyway. Whenever I wanna know the time I just take a peak at my radio display it tells the exact time (RDS adjusted) even when switched off.
