wobbly bonnet - oooer missus!

OK what has everybody else done to solve this problem? You know what I mean, the bonnet jiggles and flaps whilst at speed. The catch is still in place and nice and tight but the front wobbles. The dealer said I could basically wrap some thick tape around the little wheels that the bonnet runs on and therefore make a much more 'snug' fit. Is it true? I so i was thinking window draft excluder...

Anybody else sorted this?

You could try and put bigger wheels on it, sure you could get some from a hardware store. Otherwise a few turns of Electrical tape might do it, may look a bit crap though.

The rollers had worn badly on my car & the bonnet would flap like a mad thing at speed which was quite worrying.

Just had new rollers put on but I havent had a chance to reach bonnet wobbling speed yet...may get back to you later.

I have seen the draught excluder idea in action, but Sticky back velcro (the furry bit) was used instead & it worked a treat. Just stick it onto the car where the rollers run in the groove.

Thats what the previous owner (lake) has done to my Griff (sister car to ncs'!).

The bonnet never wobbles at very high speeds.
(of course these very high speeds were obtained on a runway )

Been wondering about that one myself - was going to pack some adhesive backed rubber at the end of the gutter that the wheels roll into.

Never occured to me the wheels might be worn as there doesn't seem to be much opportunity for that to happen...

Mine had a long strip of the rough velcro fitted to the roller grooves both sides about a foot in length ,fitted along the the flat the rollers run on along the bottom around the curve at the front and back along the top but i still got some movement above 70mph,i removed it and in the area the rollers sit when the bonnet is closed i fixed a number plate double sided sticky pad top and bottom both sides and then refitted new velcro strips its now spot on .I did think the velcro was a factory fitting but it sounds as if it is not regards Steve.

Looks like I need to find myself a couple of feet of velcro and make sure to attach it right into the deepest part of the runners... will report back in a few days.

If the rollers are loose on the bonnet, undo the bolt that locates them and a small amount of tape applied around the bolt will stop any movement due to wear/worn away thread...
Obviously not the threaded part that goes into the bonnet but the roller on mine runs on a full threaded bolt and the thread inside the roller was well worn!!
With the extra velcro.. the soft bit!! and the double sided number plate tape it worked a treat... was a bit tight closing the bonnet to start with but soon eased in... ooer missus

Our Griffith recently went into Kerridges for a service and came back with velcro strips as mentioned to prevent the flapping bonnet. In addition they also carried out some modifications to the stay so it is now a bit more stable than a coat hanger.

Full marks to Kerridges for being proactive.

Someone at the Griff Growl had some rubber buffers fitted at the front I think it was mrmaggit but not sure.

Griff SEs have the Velcro strips. Easy to buy and fit.

Here is an idea. If you have an old bike inner tube, a couple of slices like large elastic bands may fit the wheels quite well and fix the problem, and it should look okay as well.

Not if the bolt or sleeve are worn and you have a wobbly wheel

True, I was thinking of mine, where the wheels are secure, but there is movment in the groove that the wheels run in when closed and "thickening" the wheel may take up some slack, also the rubber may absorb some of the bounce the bonnet goes through and maybe make it quieter, not that you can hear it anyway

Hi David..it's just that mine had a bit if both and boy did it wobble
I will get some new rollers/bolts at some stage as the tape around the bolt needs replacing again....
I'm pleased your bits are still tight

But if you even think you can hear it Get a sleeved exhaust..

I keep thinking about the exhaust ever since Luca said he cannot here mine over the other cars on the last Surrey run. I wonder if that new place TVRFix over towards Wosterpark could fit me in, hmmmm?

I cant access Luca's site at work (by computer police) but i'm sure mine is on the Mid Essex run, Post exhaust Mod & believe me it sounds good... The RO was taking the pee out of all the guys standing at the back of the car sniffing exhaust fumes & listening to sweet music...well pops and bangs...

OK Velcro was fitted a test drive just happened to happen on a beautiful day like today! Thanks its a lot more secure, much less wobble until I reach higher speeds (cough) when even then there's little wobble compared to previously.

You could try spacing the little rollers out a little so they fit more snugly in the end of the track.
