Starting Problems on my Griffith 500
Discussion
Hi, Everyone
I'm new to this so please take that into account??
I'm having problems starting my Griffith its been standing for nearly a year in my garage and the battery in the key fob needed changing, I put a new battery in it and got in the car pressed the button the pump, pumped and the started turned and the car started, I turned it off and now nothing.
The doors lock etc so the key fob is still working and the ignition lights come on etc. but I get no pump noise and the starter won't turn or even click, I have tried the immobiliser fob to disable the immobiliser and that seems to work albeit it only seems to disable it for 5 or 6 seconds before the flashing light comes back on, I tried the banging of the passenger side dash etc. but still nothing.
Any help and suggestions would be very welcome, the battery seems to be OK all the lights work and the volt meter on the dash is showing around 12 volts
Thanks
Eddy

Hi, Hoover & Stain
I will try the battery disconnect tomorrow morning and let you know how I get on
I can't hear the relay but I have part of the wiring harness out and I can feel one of the small metal relays making contact but that only seems to happen when I use the Immobiliser fob on its own, I can't feel the relay with just using the Meta fob, hope that makes sense.
Thanks to both of you for your suggestions, I really appreciate all the help I can get Thanks

Hi, Disconnected the battery twice once for just a few seconds or so the second for 5/10 minutes, removed the batteries from the Meta fob twice but still no joy, can't hear the pump or get the starter to turn or even click, put the car in 3rd gear and tried rocking back and forth still no joy.
On checking around it seems that the siren has been removed at sometime before I purchased the car so I must assume they had problems before selling to me, albeit it has always started quite well before I laid it up in the garage a year or so ago.
I have downloaded a copy of the Meta Operator instruction and while the doors etc lock and unlock as it states the immobiliser doesn't seem to hold off (light goes off) for more than 5/6 seconds not the 18 or so seconds the operator instructions suggest, and even when I use the immobiliser fob again it only stops the flashing immobiliser light for 5/6 seconds and I thought that if I used the Imob/Fob (piece of plastic) this should have held the Immobiliser off until reset ?
I have found 2 small metal covered relays in the wiring harness from behind the glove box near the battery, and I can feel one of these is energised when the ignition is on and I use the Immobiliser Fob (piece of plastic) but it drops within 5/6 seconds, the other relay doesn't seem to do anything no matter what I do with either the Meta Fob or the Immobiliser fob.
Is there any special way that I am missing in using the Meta fob and key position, only its driving me nuts
any help would be appreciated
Thanks
If I were to get the Meta Alarm/Immobiliser replaced would most normal alarm specialists know how to do it or should I go to a TVR specialist.

Sounds like you have a fault in the immobiliser - it's not un known. Your best bet is to speak to Carl Taylor http://www.tvruk.tv/www.tvruk.tv/index.html
i would expect most competent alarm specialists to be able to help you but Carl knows the Meta installation in TVRs backwards and is the most recommended person on these forums when it comes to alarm problems.

Hi, Slade & Colin
Thanks for the advice
Its a 97 and it has the Meta system, do you mean remove the radio etc to access the alarm ecu ?
I have taken down Carl's number and web site etc. and if all else fails which it seems like its nearly there now, subject to trying Slade's suggestion, I think it will have to be a call to Carl
Thanks everyone for your suggestions and advice, I will keep you informed on how I get on

Hi, Slade
This car also has the alarm ECU behind the radio which I have disconnect twice but still no joy, thanks for the suggestion.
We rang Carl and it looks like its a faulty immobiliser so we will get him to sort it out
Thanks everyone.

Sorry can't speak of the 97 model. Certainly the early car has the alarm ECU behind the instrument fascia, sitting beneath the hi-fi, which necessitates the removal of the hi-fi and basket too to gain access to unplug the ECU.
