Heater control unit - blower stays on

Hi guys,

Have been doing some digging "search function" and found the following link: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Basically, I have exactly the same symptoms (my controls don't do anything and heater fan runs all of the time when ignition is on) and the connection ribbon that is referred to in the link is attached to the Heater control unit (is this the same as heater control ECU?) but not connected at the other end.

Can anyone tell me where the other end of the ribbon goes?

I suspect it goes to on the aluminium knobs etc, if this is the case, does anyone know how you get the centre console out to get access to the control knobs?

To get the centre console out you have to undo the bolts holding down the back end. they are enderneath the 'whale tail' behind the seats.

You'll need to loosen of the handbrake cable using the adjuster near the diif so that you can raise the hand brake up so it is vertical Remove the gear knob.

Lift the back of the console up and slide it back (it may be a bit sticky if it's not been removed before). Take care with te cable as you pull it back

This is from memory so hopefully I've not forgotten anything crucial

Btw, don't s'pose you know if my assumption is correct and that the ribbon connector does go under the centre console to the switches?

From memory the ribbon connectors do mate with the heater controls, thought there were 2 though, may be wrong. When removing the whale tail you may need to remove the door opening levers, if so note how they are connected as they are from memory again a bit fiddly.

Thanks for the info as it helped a lot and I have now resolved the problem! :-)

There was just one riboon and it connected to the heater controls, which now work perfectly.

Didn't need to disconnect the door opening levers, so no additional complications.
