Diff top bush.

I'm in the process of replacing my (GKN) diff top bush with an original type metallastic one. Using a void bush 'puller' tool I have been able to get the new bush 3/4 the way in but cannot get it any further (the 10mm dia threaded rod in the puller has snapped 3 times). I had already cleaned the inside of the mounting and lubicated with copper slip.

Before I give up and throw away the metallastic bush in favour of a poly bush I thought I'd ask here whether anyone has successfully pressed in a new metallastic bush and if so how did you do it?

I think most people have replaced with the poly bushes. My advice would be to forget what you are doing and fit a poly. They go in with no hassle and if you ever have to change it again they are a doddle to remove compaired to the oe type.

Thanks chaps, I think I'll probably go the poly bush route. With the restricted access and lack of a suitable large drift knocking the new metallastic bush in would be tricky to say the least.

So having decided to go for a poly bush what are your opinions on the Racing Green split bush ( link ) compared to the TVR Parts Shop one piece bush ( link ).

Also, is it normal practice to trim parts of the outside lip of the poly bush where it might come into contact with the welds where the mount attaches to the chassis?

I used the solid one piece bush. Got them from Steve Heath. It went in a piece of cake.

I used the Racing Green bushes. Pushed in without problem and not hugely expensive.
