Can anyone tell me where the heater pipes go from the passenger bulkhead to the engine.
I can only see them in the engine bay going through the bulkhead and appearing inside the car, but I don't know where they go in the engine bay.
I can't see their route or feel it and there is nothing to give me a clue in the Bible.

I have a constant drip in the passenger footwell. I thought this was the heater matrix and have a replacement, but having it bypassed and empty all winter I've taken the covers off I find there is still a drip and its coming from the joint where the plastic 90deg pieces join the pipe coming through from the engine bay.

I've now redone all the pipes from the bulkhead through the open/closed valve to the matrix but this bugger is testing my patience.
I think for now I'll use Blue Hylomar for the joint because I need the car at the weekend, but I will have to replace the engine bay pipes.

Any information you have would be a great help.

Thanks chaps.

Found something in another thread which says the rubber pipes join some other pipes at the back of the engine which then take the water through the valley.

Can someone shed light on this for me?

Like, whether it should be possible to get hands down there to remove the pipes, and if the rubber pipes have a bend in them or if they are straight.
If they are straight I can get replacements easily today, but if they have a preformed bend in them I'm buggered and may as well save my efforts (for now)

I think I can see a pair of jubilee clips at the back of the manifold Dave. I guess this is where the rubber hoses coming from the passenger compartment meet the metal pipes which go through the valley.

There is no way I can get my hand in there though so it looks like a plenum off job to get my hands in.

Do you know if the rubber hoses are formed with a bend on the valley end?
I'd like to get the hoses so I can limit the downtime. If they are formed its a phone call to specialists. If they aren't I can the hose from Pirtek locally.

Cheers mate

If its pre cat one metal pipe goes straight through from just behind the water pump to the back of the engine in the valley. There is a small bore union at the front end of the pipe sticking up to connect to the water jacket under the throttle butterfly (possibly since disconnected?)

The other hosee connects to the other metal pipe which screws into the back of the thermostat housing underneath the inlet manifold.

I might have a pic or two somewhere if you need them.

This is all on my 1992 V8S.

The rear ends of the manifold pipes were very frilly when I took my hoses off - I cut off about 20mm and soldered an O ring on the end to stop the pipes popping off. It is just the end of the pipe that rots - the rest is fine (also confirmed on Rover SD1 forums)
