Bonnet Gas Struts

Hi Guys,

anyone know where I can purchase a set of bonnet struts for the Griff? I have searched the forums and tinterweb but can only find one for the boot. I have tried rubbing a Viagra tablet on them and it made little difference.

I've not seen a Griff with a gas strut for the bonnet, sounds like your's has been modified by someone. They are normally just a metal rod.

mine has little gas struts as well, I think they all do?

Yes you're right. I forgot about the little strut that pops the back edge up when you pull the bonnet release.

Not sure where you can get replacements from but I would look somewhere like RS Components they do a variety of them.

You could try contacting Camloc in Thurmaston, Leicester as they made them originally.

There will be a code on the existing unit, get it as it will mean something to Camloc.
On mine the code is 96-0845-60190-185N-25/92
The only bit of that I remember is 185N is the Newton pressure it is charged to. I suspect 25/92 is the week/year of manufacture

I have a series of photos showing the codes and all the sizes against my verner calipers - if they are any use let me know.

The sickener is I used to be their IT Manager, but the only TVR I knew about then was a wedge which a contractor who used to work for us had stolen and burned out.

Back then - more than 10 years ago mind - they would make any gas spring in any quantity.

I have Camloc Stainless Steel variable pressure ones on mine, really makes a difference to their appearance and the action of the bonnet, namely it actually works properly

Barreti actually measured and photo'd his for me when the car was away and I needed to replace mine as they had de-gassed.

Pricey though . . . . Cheaper for standard items.

I finally got around to ordering the struts from SGS. They came a day later and look good. They cost £43.54 all in and have a 2 year guarantee. Must try and fit them before going to Oulton Park tomorrow.

OK Guys finally got around to fitting the struts and they are working well.
