ECU diagnostic port
Discussion
Where is the damn thing on a 92 4.0ltr griff??? Looks like I may have got hold of Rover V8 fault code reader for this weekend but cant find where it plugs in. Is it the same as on a 500? It must be somewhere on the wiring loom but I cant spot it. By the way, anyone know what sort of connector it is? Is it the same as old land rovers? Am I right in saying theres a list of fault codes in the bible? (bear in mind I've only got the 1st edition at home).
Cheers

There's good news and bad news...
Good news - from your post, I'm assuming you've only borrowed the code reader, not forked out £££ for it....
...and the bad news is you might not have a diagnostic socket in the wiring loom - my precat doesn't
, chances are yours may not either
The reader plugs into a black rectangular socket, my precat loom has a round white socket, whereas 500s have the right plug. No one could tell me if a home made adaptor would allow code reading or whether it could just damage the reader.

Luckily I only borrowed the reader but seing as though I still couldnt find a port (either a white or black one) it was useless anyway. Andy is your white socket somewhere on the loom in the passenger footwell? Does it have something plugged into it like a termination point?
So how do the dealers read the fault codes on pre-cat cars?
