Mobilube 1 75W/90 F/synthetic in T5 gearbox?

Can't find it now but someone on PH recently recomended this so I thought I might get some as my Griff is due a gearbox oil change.

Anyone got experience of using it?

And any idea where I can get it - tried the usual Halfwits and motor factors without success

Yes ive had it in my gearbox for about 4000 miles i got it from a rally sport shop ,Motor scope in Northalerton ,North Yorkshire tel=01609 780155,the T5 gearbox is fitted in the sierra cosworth 4x4s and all the keen lads put mobil one gear oil in for road and motorsport use so its not new to the T5 box,my gearbox is now smoother to change gear it used to be a bit notchy when cold it took a while before i noticed the improvement but its like silk now hot or cold .I now have it in my wifes Laguna box i used to work in the oil industry and i believe any synthetic oil is better than a mineral equiverlent,it costs £10 per litre and you need four litres it says 2 1/2 litres in my hand book but it takes 3 1/2 it is £40 well spent hope this is of some help regards Steve.

Thanks Steve, I will try and source it locally but if no good I'll ring your man.

Are you sure about capacity, my handbook says 1.4 litres - so should that be 2.4?

Did you do anything about cleaning any residue of the old mineral oil out before refilling with synthetic, or is there not going to be enough to be concerned about?

when i changed mine i drove the car to warm it up ,lifted the car up and let it drain for 24 hrs as i was doing other jobs ,there is no need to be so carefull the two oils are compatable, and with the gearbox being warm i recon an hour or two will more than do.Oil capacity you are right my hand book says 1.4ltrs and it actuly took 2.4 ltrs i was talking from memory yesterday but i have checked my notes the capacity for mine is actualy 2.4 ltrs i only bought 2ltrs and had to go back and buy an extra ltr to fill it up. My car is a 2000 model and it is definatly a missprint in my hand book .Supply of the synthetic gearoil i think if you have a shop in the area that does parts for the rally crowd they may well have it or look in the yellow paiges for a mobil service station ,allso the gearbox drain and level plugs have taper threds so it is best to have some P T F E tape (thred tape )to put on the threads to get a good seal hope this is of some help regards Steve.

I think you might have been right first time - I've just changed my gearbox oil and it took 3.5 litres. I thought the car couldn't be level so I checked chassis with a spirit level and it was OK.
It also makes it easier if you fill it using a length of plastic tubing as the filler hole isn't too easy to get at with the bottle.
Also, the photograph of a T5 box in the bible shows the filler on the nearside, but on mine it's on the offside.
Millers in Brighouse are also good for oils (but not Mobil obviously!)
