Hi there people,ive a rough idle problem which goes away while driving but as i brake for a junction etc the revs drop very low and then it splutters until i give it some throttle.
Ive cleaned the stepper and checked all the pipes for leakes ive even replaced the coolant temp sensor but it still runs like a pig,any ideas?

Speed sensor on the back of the speedo has been suggested before. Mine does exactly the same, sudden stop, revs drop, usually catches the idle revs but does occasionally cut out. Tried most things, still does it. If you find the cure let me in on it !! Alarm / Immobiliser problem has also been suggested, although it does it so rarely I have learned to live with it.
Ironically, my 3.9 Range Rover Vogue Classic also did it.

Hi Simon, have experienced the same issue of late. Come to a stop, and the revs drop, and it runs, sorry, splutters on a very poor idle until you give it some revs and then its fine. It does occassionally cut out when spluttering!!, but as you say does it so infrequently, haven`t bothered to do anything about it.
It is in the garage today funnily enough for its 12K service, so have ask them to take a look. Will let you know if they come up with anything.

Had the car with Mark Adams last week so its not fuelling or mapping causing it. It was Mark who suggested the sensor on the back of the speedo but he wasn't certain and said it could be a number of things causing it, of course when I wanted it to do it for Mark to diagnose the problem do you think it would ?!.

I had similar symptoms on the Chim. I adjusted/raised the base idle using the Steve Heath method of clamping the stepper air intake and winding out the screw slightly to achieve an idle of about 600rpm. If it stalls when you clamp the stepper air intake then the base idle is too low.

The TVR "speedo recalibration unit" produces a fixed pulse at anything over 3mph, so the ECU knows the car is moving (thats all, not how fast). This then makes the ECU lift the basic idle up (to I think to about 1500 rpm) to allow for better gear changes with less enging braking. As the car stops the pulses stop and the ECU then drop the idle to around 800 rpm. The speed signal, if present will hold the idle high, not low, and if the signal is not present the idle should be normal, it cant pull it below the 800 or so rpm. If its not a sticky stepper it can be base idle to low, or something else, like a shift in mixture due to airleaks, or loss of a good spark, basically anything that can make the idle drop faster than the ECU is programmed to expect so the stepper does not respond in time.
