Wats the best engine conversion for someone who wants sub 9 sec 0 - 60 times, over 110mph and reliability without changing the bodywork to much ? (1.3i mini cooper, late 90's) ...has to be from a company that will fit it themselves along with the neccessary parts. Thanks

They are now doing turnkey solutions, this is probably your best bet, but remember that you will need better brakes and suspension.

To get below 9 secs for 0 - 60 is not too difficult for a 1275. However, a top speed of 110+ as well is rather more dificult as the aerodynamic drag curve is a real problem. Drag increases as the square of the speed and, for a 'brick-shaped' car like the Mini it's a real problem. You would, and here I'm guessing, need around 120 bhp for 110 mph. This is possible, but at the price of a loss of bottom end torque. Thus to pull away would need a very low 1st gear. But with a cammy engine you'll need close ratio gears, so you then have to fit a low diff which will cut off your top speed at, maybe, 100 mph at 6500 rpm.
Now, my 1275 'S' has c.117 bhp, does 0 - 60 in about 7.5, but at 110 mph it would be pulling about 7500 rpm. I never go there and tend to use about 6700 as an absolute maximum which is about 100 mph. But it's just so noisy and harsh at those revs I hardly ever go there except on long straight special stages. I get scared it's going to really blow up!
Alternatively, how about a supercharger?

just stick a 1.6 8v vauxhall engine into it , if you have the ability to change an a-series engine then you can do this. you can buy a kit to help you out .

all for less that 3k easily diy , 100bhp , 5 speed box , fuel injected ..as std

As Cooperman says, the mini just isn't built for high speeds. Our 1380 sprint car puts out about 140-ish bhp and our data logger shows a 5.9 second 0 to 60 time but a top speed of 'only' 113 mph. And that's pulling in excess of 8,000 rpm so is not something you'd want to make a habit of.

And our car has been partially deseamed which probably helps a little.

But then, in the opinion of many people, it's not a 'real' Mini any more, it's a hybrid. It all depends on your point of view. There are some purists who will say that the only 'real' Mini is an early 850 with 3.5"x10" wheels and a 'wand' for a gearlever. That's probably going a bit too far, although the early 850 does have a sort of 'period charm' about it (coupled with the water leaks and unreliability!).

If you must have an A series why not a MG metro turbo engine and box ? Okay only 93 bhp in standard tune, but enough midrange torque to destroy the gearbox. Seriously I know it's been done but I had a metro turbo back in days of old and it was quick enough.

That's a real good answer to the need for power.

O to 60 is not as important as 30 to 80 IN my humble oppinion. Top speed (above about 95) is irrelevant IMHO. Real world it's the ability to overtake on a short stretch of uphill B road, handling, and braking power (and especially wet weather braking) that matter.
