I'm just about to renew the insurance on my current 2 Minis, one a 1964 Cooper 'S' very fully prepared rally car and the other a 1986 Mayfair 998.
Who is giving the best quotations these days as my current broker is having difficulty getting the right level of cover for the 'S' with its high valuation (£22,000) with the rally mods?

Adrian Flux was pretty good. I said, "I want my car back if I crash it" and "I want it to be cheap and F/C". £135 for a caged mk1 with all the tricks.

I gave up a long time ago expecting insurance companies to actually offer something other than excuses not to provide a service.

I don't want the car to be taken from me under any circumstance and I want a piece of paper to show the cops.

I expect flux to offer a good degree of service and he was also cheaper than any other of the pirates.

Only downside of Adrian Flux's cheap quotes is if you want to make a change mid-policy. At very least you will be looking at a £25 charge, and at worst they will simply refuse, and then cancel the policy. For example, I asked them to change the main driver on a policy from me to my wife - response: "no, and now we know you're not the main driver, we can't cover you on this policy". Nice.

A Manning worth a try, also A-Plan.

pete

ive used lancaster for years. their valuation dept is independant to the broker as well, so they dont really use high value cars to screw the premuim up.

my 1071 costs @ 140 quid a year fully comp with them - with a value of 8 grand.

when i insured it it rang every one of the people in the magazines and lancaster where the only people who ticked every box. the only pain is that you have to renew the valuation every year

one of the larger companies had a great trick where 'agreeded value' only meant that they would pay up the value for the 'base unit' none of the modifications where covered!!!! robbing ba$tards!!!

the only shame with any of the big compaines is that they wont do 'fleet' policys for minis.

on the other hand lancaster wont touch my bus, thats insured with flux's, who are very good (if a little expennsive) at insuring odd vehicles

Ive just had my racer put through its first MOT after the rebuild and it passed first time :-)

Next on the agenda is insurance! Its a 1293, weber 45 and 286 cam, full cage, etc etc.

I'm only 23, but the car will do very little road miles. Which companies should i try first and how much do you reckon it will set me back?

I have used Lancaster for about 10 years, and found them to be cheap and helpful. The premium did even go up to much when I had a big accident and did £3500 damaged to my one of minis.

My current mini is extensively modified and they aret bothered . The agreed value I got was sensible value first time round.

I tried Lancaster, but they won't cover a classic rally car which is used for historic rallying, even though I don't need cover for the actual rally mileage. Also, they won't cover a car which has had its back seats removed!

Thanks Dino. I just got a good quote from Adrian Flux at £185 for the 'S' with a value of £22k.

I'll be looking for insurance on 2-3 minis in the future, can this be done on 1 policy?

I don't think so. All mine are on separate policies.
