hi there

Ive restored a 86 mayfair but when i put it all back together i didn't put any soundprofing in, so recently i have been working away at it so we can at least hear the radio. That has been sucsessful but i would still like to make it quieter, i have put soundproofing

behind the walnut dash
behind the carb and most of the bulkhead
under the carpets.

could anyone suggest places for more soundproofing, Cheers

Up right bit of the rear seats. Did this is mine and it went from having to shout at 70 to be heard to being able to hold an actual conversation.

Inside of the roof, try a few layers of foam type laminate floor insulation, glued to the inside of the roof.

Hi 2 places that will make a BIG difference, the 2 plastic tubes in the inner wings, big one for heater in drivers side, and small one off side for dash vent, take them off(dont forget to fix them back in with sealer/elephant tape, so you dont get wather in your car) once out get some good heave foam type, and make a roll, that fits inside them. The plastic acts like a amplifier, so once the foam is in, this will make it real quiet. Also on the the bulkhead there is the open panel behind the heater, its a bit hard to get in there(pedals-heater hose-etc), but this also enhance the noise, so get some sound deadning in there also, just remember this must not be something that holds wather as it will start to rust. And ofcourse check all rubber grommets/holes in bulkhead, as even the smallest hole makes noise come straight in the cabin, and then you wont stop it no matter how much sound deadning you chuck behind dash. Good luck

I second the advice for soundproofing on the floor - make sure you have no leaks though, the proofing will soak it up and merrily propagate rust. The other good thing is an under-bonnet pad (I got mine from mini sport) which really cuts down thrash from the top end and drumming from the panel itself.

Ive got an ERA and there is extra sound proofing on the floor pan and loads on the underside of the bonnet, seems to make a huge difference when compared to my standard mayfair.
