Hi Guys,
Anyone had condencer failure on a mini 1000 1985....I seem at the moment to be going through condencers at a rapid rate....
Someone suggested a cracked dissy cap...But,This is not that old...Any ideas guys.....Kev.

Modern ignition parts do seem to be rubbish.
My only suggestion .... try to find an old condensor, either NOS or just used!

I have to admit it was the main reason I gave up and fitted a Pertronix.

Funny you say that, my Mini sounded like a tractor with my 'new' condensor and was mis firing. I found an old condensor in the toolbox - surface rust and all, and it cured the problem. Just because its new doesnt go to say that its going to work. Luckily they're only a few pennies to buy. I've been through about 3 sets myself.

I gave up on my electronic ignition. When the engine is hot, put foot on accelerator it just cuts out. But it would restart and go for another few metres before doing the same again. I have no problem with points. I've just fitted a new vacuum advance as mine wasnt working, maybe that was the cause of the problem?

How old/ what condition is the coil in?
When mine went my mini started eating points and condesners- changed the coil and not a problem after that.

Thanks Jimbo....The coil did cross my mind being honest...I have fitted yet another condencer one of the old type...Took the car for a run..And,Fingers crossed all was well....I do think as already suggested, Modern is`nt always best,But,I`ll also keep the coil in mind...Many thanks....Kev.

There has been a lot of complaints recently about condensers. I have found out through talking to suppliers that a recent huge batch of lucas type condensers have turn out to be all duff which is why so many people i have spoken to have had missfire probs especially once the engine warms up. As far as i know this is well known to the factory and has now been rectified but there will be a huge number of dodgy ones still out there on the shop shelves. so buying a new one will still be a lottery.
