Having previously owned a dozen Minis and more recently a Honda S2000, I am seriously considering building or buying a VTEC powered Mini.

Any useful links or contacts will be much appreciated.

This company was the first to spring to mind.. www.zcars.org.uk Although I believe 1 or 2 others exist also, but I forget who they are now.

I should have said the Mini must be FWD and standard Bull Nose (round front).

Hi mate,

Im currently in the process of building one!...

Try these 2 website, they have been a great source of informaiton throughout my build.

www.16vminiclub.com

www.16vminishop.co.uk

Beware before posting on the site, alot of questions have already been answered so it might be worth doing a search before asking anything!!...

Hope you find what you need

Watson conversion is a 90mm extended front end.

Allspeeds Subframe (16vminishop) does a conversion that will fit in a standard front end however the parts are a lot more expensive. ie, custon manifold, radiator drive shafts etc etc..... (the list goes on)

Cheers

Red - Having owned one of these I would say try and buy one already done as you never get your money back. Also take someone who really knows about minis/cars in general.

Mine always used to have cooling problems I seem to remember. I would also carefully check that the engine is in good condition, i.e not smoking etc. Make sure they have also had the final drive conversion, this helps in bringing the revs down when motorway cruising.

They do run rich some times due to the map so emission tests can be tricky at MOT times. Also if they are running DTA ECU make sure you get the password!

I would say the if money no object def go for Z-Cars, they are simply the best.

If you can get the Honda VTEC 1.8 (B18) then go for that :-). The Watsons kit mentioned does need extending if you don't go for the Clubman front. I ordered a complete kit from Watsons inc engine etc, I wouldn't really recommend this as some of the parts weren't so good. As I said try and find one already done.

Oh and they are a lot of fun. smile
