hi my son as a j reg mini cooper which as started starting very badly when cold sounds like its missing or some think runs fine when warm

If you want an reply please give more info. All the time when wet when very cold. Dose the engine speed make a diffrence etc.

just when it starts if engine is cold. if its hot runs fine no stalling or any thingconfused

id guess its the wrong or faulty coil. yours is round the era of 9 volt ballest coil, so if the wrong (i.e a 12 volt) coil has been fitted (or vica-versa) then starting will be an issue as the cold cranking drops the volts to low.

its easy to check with a meter

edit - if it is a j reg cooper it will (or should be) a 12 volt mg metro type electronic ignition, so check a 9 volt coil hasnt been fitted

is it injection or carb, possibly a faulty choke
