Please forgive my ignorance, but what does the righthand knob with a picture of flames on it do?

I thought the one on the right was the choke?

On mine the choke was on the left. IIRC.
Though having not actually driven a Mini in several years and with the current one in pieces and on its side I'm not so sure smile
Anyway, the "other" knob controls the temperature of the heater, out for cold, in for hot if memory serves.
It connects up to a valve on the water line to the heater , on the offside end of the head on pre-injection cars. Think the injection cars had the valve moved but I don't know where smile
