A little mini related dilemma for the PH masses - I have a long term project snail paced in gestation, but the years of delay have enabled me to wheel & deal spares and acquire everything I really need to complete when time allows - outside the garage is parked a severely rotten equinox that cost me peanuts and by flogging the tank, ecu, fobs and injection system has paid for itself - leaving me with a very low mileage spi lump, decent interior etc etc...
A work colleague who sold his mini to a relative many years ago, has just been bequeathed it back - it had proverbial bucket loads of cash thrown at it and is fitted with genuine rospetals, a 1380 lump, classic buckets, willans harnesses, S discs, genuine hi-lo's, spax adjustables etc etc. It has been garaged since the last MOT expired about 5 years ago...
Appearances as we all know can be deceptive...
An in depth look this evening and er, an arc welder has been used on - rotting sills, some small holes, worn front floor panels and A panels..........
Oversills have been bodged on with original rotten ones in situ - evidently hammered in slightly, doors sag badly indicating something decidely ominous, inner sills patched badly etc etc - you get the very sad picture...
2 options - either reshell it which I know I'd end up doing for a pittance... or I can make him an offer for the remains - and here is where the crisis of conscience creeps in - I'm minded to offer him £200 for it but I know the goodies that can be removed are worth far far more than that... what'd the consensus of opinion - am I being a git or is all fair in love & 7th hand cars?????????

The bits are only worth more if they know what they are, and more importantly if they are prepared to go to the hassle of taking them off and selling them. For many this isn't a feasible prospect, so to such people it's worth very little. As scrap the car is worth £50 +- so if they get £100-200 for it as is, they are doing very well.

Add to your £200 the cost of collection with a trailer at £1-00 per mile each way. Then the time for stripping all the good bits of at, say, £30-00 per hour, plus the time it woulod take to clean and check each component before you could sell them. That's what you are really offering for the car. I bet it all comes to over £500 which is more than reasonable.

And if that 1380 "lump" is any good I'll give you £45 for it so there's your profit straight away

TBH if it was any good and you lived any nearer then seriously I would be interested, but think you are at tother end of GB to me

Cheers guys - car is going to make it's final journey to my personal scrap yard soon.. but minus engine - was built by MED at huge expense and has a straight cut box - so would have felt slightly guilty.....
