Whenver it rains my fan belt makes a very irritating screeching noise unless i put it in neutral, is there anything i can gert to prevent this. thanks

Check it's tension, if it's the correct tension (about 1/2" deflection on the longest run betwen pulleys) then the belt is probably worn and will need replacing

For the cost and if it has been slipping for some time I would just replace it. If you dont know already its the alternator position that tensions the belt. Hope this help

Also make sure that the 3 pulleys around which the belt runs are in line. In many cases they are not and it's usually the alternator pulley which is out-of-line. Use washers to get the correct alignment and don't forget that if you use spacer washers on the top 2 alternator mountings, you must add the same thickness of packing washers to the slide bracket mounting on the bottom of the alternator or it may fracture with time.
