the rear nearside tail light is not working, indicator, reverse and brake lights are fine, bulb checked and ok,tried a spare light cluster and same fault so must be in wiring somewhere. any ideas?

You need a circuit diagram and a circuit tester. Start by testing the output from the junction block where the LH side/tail light wires go to the front and the back and make sure that there is power to the LH tailight connection. Then tract the wire back to the tailight unit ad test there as well. You need to isolate the point at which the current is not present, then go back to the previous point at which there was current. Between those two places is where the problem lies. Re-wire if necessary, but try to use the correctly colour-coded wire to aviod confusion in the future.
12V DC electrics are very simple so long as you work logically from the place where you know you have pwer to the place where you don't.
