No heat coming from the Heater. Top Rad hose is hot, but the hose that goes from the block to the heater valve is cold.

So, to refresh my memory, would that be a thermostat fault, heater valve not opening fault (although I would have thought the hose should be hot to the valve, and not on the other side if faulty) or I suppose it could be an air leak.

Any advice would be helpful, its my sons car and its been a long time since I messed with a mini lump.

Cheers

what age is the car? is the heater valve on the front left of the head? if it is it could be air. mini heaters will offten be cold on tick over but reved a little the heater should blow warm.

Its a 87 Mayfare, pipe comes off driver side head and onto a valve on the hose, passenger bulkhead. Its operated by a cable. The hose doesn't get warm at all, but top rad hose to thermostat housing does get hot fairly quickly

It is worth checking the thermostat. Also check the water level, the valve on the head is operating correctly (the cable is realy moving the valve). IF this is all ok remove the pipes to the heater and run water from a hose pipe to check for blocks. Hope this helps

Check for flow throught he heater and check the heater valve - the early ones can get blocked. Take the heater outlet pipe off off the valve and run the engine after topping the rad right up. If water comes flowing out, the heater is not blocked. You'll also be bleeding any air out. If it doesn't flow out freely, connect a garden hose to the heater valve and turn on the water to flush out the heater rad, the main rad and the entire heating/cooling system. You can also take the rad cap of and fully flush the entire system at the same time, always a good idea. Don't forget the anti-freeze afterwards.
The re-connect up and warm the engine. It should then all be OK.
