A Series Nitrous
Discussion
Hello,
Im seriously considering nitrous for the mini, and i was wondering what you all thought about it on here? Nothing too mental, just some 50hp jets which according to Mr Vizard is about a reasonable limit.
Current spec is:-
1380cc
A Series Block
Big Valve Head
Weber 45dcoe
5 inch manifold
Maniflow Full System (inc Manifold)
My questions are:-
How much does Nitrous reduce engine life?
What pistons are recommended?
Is it high revs, or the extra power which kills the engine?
Cheers,
Mike

Hi rpm and high power both put more strain on an engine. The NOS will make the life of the engine shorter by how much it is hard to say. One thing witch will make a diffrance is the compretion ratio of the engine. Befor going a head check out the cost of bottel refills and how much you will use.
Pistons should have substantial crown thickness - mainly because the cylinder pressures will be greatly increased when Nitrous is added. The Cast Iron block/head will be more than capable of handling the increased cyclinder pressures, just make sure a quality H/gasket (Payen or similar) is used in the build. Nitrous if fitted properly shouldn't drastically reduce engine life. If you fit a progressive system that doesn't come in with a huge bang as some wet systems do, the load the engine sees whilst increased won't go through component thresholds unless you go mental with the laughing gas
That is the general claim?? A progressive 25hp kit would be a good laugh.
That is the general claim?? A progressive 25hp kit would be a good laugh. there is only one nitrous system to use , and that will be Highpower, wizards of nos.
however cheaper the others may seem you really are getting what you pay for with highpower, as trevor Langfield and his boys really know there stuff, plus you get a lifetime warrantee with all there products,i have been using highpower systems for over ten years now and never been let down by there workmanship or dedication,
buying from \highpower meens you are buying direct from the manufacturer/ designers. not some middle amn who knows nothing more than counting the money he has just made out of you on the sale.

Dependent on what power kit you go I'd say you'd be safe with Cast Omega's (+25hp). If you go wilder and want real insurance fit a forged piston. The way a forged piston is manufactured means the gudgeon pin isn't undercut and the resulting metal that is left ensures you get a very strong pin/crown albeit at the expense of a little weight. Again Omega do a forged item with a either flat top or 6.5cc dish. The smaller the dish - the thicker the piston crown the stronger the piston.
