Don't worry if the car you find is hydro, iut's easy to convert back to rubber cone suspension.
I do know of a superb Mk 2 998 car which needs very little work and is rust-free for about £1800. If I had the space I would buy it for re-sale later.
Private email me if you are interested.

Yes, they are great. My grandson and I are currently restoring a 1966 Mini 850 which we bought last December for £1000. It's not too bad, but does need new inner and outer sills, a pair of wings, inner & outer A-panels, a new rear valence and a complete re-build to be in mint condition. It will be converted to 'dry' at the same time. We are leaving it at 850 cc, but I'll open out the head a bit, fit a slightly better cam (Kent 256 probably) and finish the interior as a de Luxe model, even though it started out as a 'basic'. I'll paint it in 2-pack (island blue with a white roof).

I know of a light blue 66 mk1 850 that is up for sale. It is missing its engine, front seats and drivers door glass, and it could do with a new front wing and poss a scuttle corner (is was filled over years ago), but other than that the shell is not bad at all. It has got a mk3 boot fitted though and it is hydolastic, but my mate has had it for a while now (and the previous owner had it for many years) and it hasn't lost fluid with either of them.

It is stored near Bristol and he is looking for £450 for it as he has a Marcos arriving at some point and a pick-up to restore for the IMM
