my 1982 mini with a 1000 engine

want to take my 1 litre mini engine and put the biggest engine possible in,any ideas what engine will fit straight in?

the only other engine that will fit 'straight in' is another 1000 engine..........

with a little work a later 1275 will fit, but you will need to do some messing.

you can buy a kit to have a honda vtec put in but id say just have a 1275 over bored to 1380

The best size to bore out to is probably 1330 which is +0.060" on a standard 1275. To go to 1380 means offset boring, more expensive pistons, thinner cylinder walls (i.e. will run hotter) and not that much more power. As a guide, another 50 cc will probably give you about 4 bhp extra, asuming the rest stays the same.
An A+ block is better than an earlier one.
