If it's an old remote type box they could be for a reversing light.
The 1100/1300 range often has a switch and it's a straight fit in a Mini box, or it could be an 1100/1300 box of course?

its a little thing that bolts into the transfer case under the starter, its held in with a 8mm headed bolt and has two wires, which will end in a blue coloured plug (unless its been cut off)

its only used on the injection cars, so if your car is a carbed one and has had a later engine fitted i guess its just been left in situ to stop stones getting into the clutch

the reverse switch for the remote box is in the front face under the dynamo, normally (on a mini) there is just a large (about 24mm) bolt screwed in there

This guessing game would be easier if we knew the age of the car smile

Ah well that scuppers my reverse switch idea! Remote boxes went out in the '70's. Unlikely there's one in your car!
