Just bought this 2001 Mini Cooper S500 off ebay as a Cat D failure and all round sad little motor car. Got it stripped down in the garage and I suspect as well as the minor frontal damage ( Cat D ) this car has been under water for a period of time... Yipes !. The car drives OK although the drive shafts are dumping oil like the Exon Valdez !!, it has quite a lot of interior surface rust, the inside is filthy, the radio has been removed, and all the interior pockets show signs of water intrusion , silt, tide marks etc so quite poorly, especially for a 9 year old car !!. Not only that it is suspected of having completed 147K miles !! Obviously the car was a lot lot cheaper than the " non drowned " versions of the S500, and will provide me with a nice project for restoration. The good bits are the exterior paint is pretty good, it has a Jack Knight 5 speed box fitted, a high / low kit, twin stainless exhaust ( will be removed ) and the leather seats look recoverable.
The car has been certified as no 266 by the S500 register and that,s as much as I currently know about this cars history.
