problems with my mini
Discussion
hey guys im having a few problems with my mini.
its a 1992 rover city E. well whenever i put my lights on my wipers stop working.... and i can only get them going again if i wiggle the wires above the fuse box..... but when i do get them working they are really slow and seem 2 stop then carry on.... would it be best 2 clean the cogs for the wipers with some wd40?
also i was thinking of changing the fusebox and having it from inside the car... that way it will stay dry and won't get covered in s
t!
hope you guys can help

It sounds like a really poor connection, or a bad earth somewhere. these little electrical faults ae a real nuisance.
Maybe you should disconnect the power wire(s) into the wiper motor and run a lead direct from the battery connection on the starter solenoid to the wiper motor. If the wipers work at normal speed, then it's a power supply wire. if they are still slow, then it's an earth.
It does sound as though the entire wiring in the fuse box area is 'dodgy'.
Take each connection off in turn, clean the terminals and the connectors and refit them. If that doesn't do it, come back on here for more advice.

yeah the wiring is very dodgy
went 4 a little drive last night..... and when i went over bumps in the road my interior dash light would go out! and if i hit another 1 the light would come back on!
ah these little things are what give minis there character
well ill have a go at what you said and report back
cheers for the help!

Both the fuse boxes and there connectors rust a lot on minis. The other thing that can happen over time is the clips holding the fuses go lose. It is quite a bit of wiring to get the fuse box inside and looked after (quick WD40 once a month) can last quite well.
Dont spary the wiper gears with WD40 it will wash away the grease. If you want to clean away the old grease and replace with new.
